I have been dealing with 'Emergency Essentials' since before Y2K, and they have water storage barrels in 15, 30 and 55 gallon containers, as well as 5 gallon storage bags/boxes.  Their website is: www.beprepared.com

I had already mentioned the site in the links section...

Could someone break it down in language I can understand on the amount of Chlorine needed for water. How much for a 2 liter bottle? ( I have no idea what 2 cc's is)  I'm going to start saving soda bottles and get my water collection started with them till I get some big blue 6 gallon containers like the ones I use camping.  Once I get them I wondered how much for a gallon so I can add bleach to it?

Is bleach all I need to add to the water? I read where some of you add Iodine.

Fill the(two litter) bottle to the top with regular tap water. If the tap water has been commercially treated from a water utility with chlorine, you do not need to add anything else to the water to keep it clean. If the water you are using comes from a well or water source that is not treated with chlorine, add two drops of non-scented liquid household chlorine bleach to the  water.Tightly close the container using the original cap. Be careful not to contaminate the cap by touching the inside of it with your finger. Place a date on the outside of the container so that you know when you filled it. Store in a cool, dark place.Replace the water every six months if not using commercially bottled water.

I store water a number of ways, the largest being the rain barrels however that's not something I'm ready to put my lips to without filtering. I also store it in the Aquatainers with bleach and in two liter bottles. I've started to put more away with the two liter bottles as they are cheaper (like free after you empty them) and a handy useable size. I was bolstered to save more after I saw this:

I never gave any thought to the color of the bottle. And I liked how putting them outside in the sun kills the little critters. Guess I better buy some more soda.  :thu:
