Bandoleers?
« on: July 05, 2010, 06:17:49 PM »
Im looking for a bandoleer like the ones used in WWII and Vietnam that can hold (4-6) 5.56 magazines. From my research I can only find ones that strap to your side, a large molle bandoleer that looks to bulky, or the older WWII or Vietnam era bandoleers that can only carry the 10 round clips.

Does anyone know where I can get one that fits that description?

I'm not sure if this the one you think may be too bulky, but I have one and I can tell you that it's not bulky at all. It's no thicker than 2 AR mags and no wider than three, the material adds very little bulk: http://www.armysurpluswarehouse.com/product/6-mag-molle-ii--bandoleer-woodland-4312.cfm

I also had thereisnospoon craft me a PALS/MOLLE bandoleer platform that works equally well (currently set up to hold 5 mags and some small essentials). We use these as the house mag carriers, in that if there is a bump in the night, throw it over the shoulder and you've got 6 mags at your side. Come get some. :D

I'm not quite sure what you're after but the TAD Gear (http://www.militarymorons.com/equipment/2ndline2.html) somewhat fits the bill. Scroll down just a bit.

Thats the Molle bandoleer that I thought would be bulky. It also has too much real estate for me. I have a ATS Warbelt that carries my main TEOTWAWKI supplies that include a 3 mag shingle, a IFAK, a dump pouch and a soon to be added holster for a 1911. I just what to get a simple KISS bandoleer that can carry a few extra mags and that doesnt add much weight.

Something like this:

But holds more like (4-5) 30 round magazines instead of 10 round stripper clips.

I will try to find, or take a picture of mine.  It has a strap for over the shoulder carry, and I think 6 or 7 pockets that will each hold 3 stripper clips of 10 5.56 rounds each.  It's old, but not sure what era.  Was sent to me when I purchased stripper clips off EBay as I recall.

Mine looks very similar to http://cgi.ebay.com/Nylon-Bandoleer-Repack-Kit-10-223-5-56mm-Stripper-Clips-/300443206595.
Hope posting links to Ebay is ok.  Not my item, just results of a search.

I've got 3 bandoleers that hold 4 mags each... either 20rd .308 mags or 30rd .223 mags.

I got them from Fred's M14 rifle stocks store.

http://www.firequest.com/AJ512.html

Fred's out of stock on 'em, but I see these guys have them.  I'm sure a google search for M16 bandoleer will return appropriate results.  The above link is pretty 'spensive for what is essentially a GI cloth sack.  The pic of this one includes cardboards and stripper clips... Fred just sold me the cloth bandoleer with nuttin' else.

I want a bandoleer like the nylon GI ones but has enough room in the pouches to carry a 30 round magazine instead of the 10 round clips. Do they even exist?

Maybe Armchairtactical make one...

Yes.  This.

From my first post.

I have 3 of these.

One is in my "go" locker right now, loaded up with 4x20rd .308 mags.  Another is right beside it, loaded with a mix of 30rd and 20rd .223 mags.

Here's a pic of one of 'em filled with M14 mags.  The mags that stick out the top slightly are special, non-standard height CMI 25rd .308 mags.

Here's the second one, with my AR-15 with it, filled with AR mags.  I deliberately lifted the mags above the top-line of the bandoleer for this pic.

You'll notice that mine lack the white stitching along the bottom that the original one I posted, has.  That is because the stitching is designed to be removed if you are going to carry 30rd mags.  It pulls right out in about 10 seconds (literally).  Otherwise, it perfectly supports 20rd AR mags at the right height.

Thanks Azredhawk44! I was thinking that the pouches would be too small for a 30 round mag.

I am going to order one tonight

The 20 round 308 pmags fit perfectly in those, so thanks to the suggestion by NineSeven and AZRedhawk, one more problem solved.
